Three Ways to Make Monochromatic Outfits Interesting
I’m a big fan of monochromatic dressing in the colder months, but it’s not as simple as it looks. Here are three easy ways I keep monochromatic outfits interesting!
Vary the texture
I love mixing and matching various textures to add interest to a monochromatic outfit. One of my go-to outfits is a twill skirt or trousers, cashmere sweater, and velvet or suede slippers.
Add an interesting detail
I try to choose one piece in my outfit with an interesting detail–for instance, an unusual shape for a handbag, particularly beautiful buttons on a sweater, or a whimsical motif on shoes. It breaks up the “sameness” of the outfit, while at the same time the monochromatic look provides a great background for the detail to shine. (I wrote a lot about this in my Substack a few weeks ago.)
Add a slight pop of color
I love to add one small detail in a different color to highlight the rest of the monochromatic outfit. Favorite features to add are a handbag, shoes, or a scarf in a bright yet complimentary color.
